Christmas Is About Coming Home

As I write this article let me just state that I love Christmas. I love the traditions of giving and I love that as a world we pause to remember the birth of the Savior Jesus Christ. It is my hope that we as people can put aside hatred and greed and learn the lessons the Master taught so that the world can be happier and more peaceful. If that is to happen, then it depends wholly upon us.

I have had a recurring dream from time to time-about an experience I had when I was just a young boy, before my teenage years. I used to go to the theater for the Saturday matinee with my older brother and younger sister. We used to walk a mile to get there and often times when the movie was over it would be dark outside. My dream was that I would come out of the theater and find myself standing in the median of a very busy street with cars moving fast in both directions. Of course I felt disoriented not knowing which direction pointed to the way home.

Another experience about the importance of getting home was written by a good friend of mine, Hans Kindt. Hans was my bishop in the early days of my membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Hans tells this story___

”It was always my desire to return home someday and to see my hometown which now belongs to Poland. I wanted to see familiar places where I experienced love and joy. I wanted to see the beautiful areas where we had our church picnics. I wanted to see my mother’s grave and the lake where I was baptized when I was eight years of age. Twenty years ago, my dream came true when my wife and I traveled by car from West Germany through East Germany into Poland.

When we arrived, I found my hometown completely changed. During the war it was about 80% destroyed. There were new buildings, places enlarged, and new streets created. In the city, I lost my way. So I stopped and sat there for a while. Then my wife asked me, “Do you know where you are?” I said, “Let’s first go to my home and orient ourselves from there.” I knew from the reports of others that our home was still standing. And it was from there that I was able to find my way. It was from there that I was able to know which direction to go to the places I wanted to see.” (Coming Home-Hans Kindt Sermon-Stake Conference-November 3, 2007)

Like in the days of post World War II, much of our traditional landscape is changing. There are confusing messages and new moralities and there are many distractions to help us to lose our way. Ultimately we will all be called home physically someday. The challenge though and the joy is to come home spiritually. That is why I love Christmas. There is no place like home for Christmas! May your Christmas be bright and may God bless you and your loved ones.

Veretekk, “The Search Engine Optimization Company”

Article Posted By Veretekk

This author does not believe that the topic of Veretekk could be entered into without providing readers with the aspect of search engine optimization, what the term means, and why each and every aspect of Veretekk revolves around this topic.

This author has used the term search engine optimization as being both an art, and a science. In other words, search engine optimization is the consistent effort put forth to live submission services like blogs, that build back links that point to sites. This process is called link building, and is one area in which Veretekk outshines the competition.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in search engines via the “natural” or un-paid (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results. Other forms of search engine marketing (SEM) target paid listings. In general, the earlier (or higher on the page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine’s users. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, news search and industry-specific vertical search engines. This gives a website web presence.

As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work, what people search for, the actual search terms typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience. Optimizing a website may involve editing its content and HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines. Promoting a site to increase the number of back links, or inbound links, is another SEO tactic.

The initialism “SEO” can refer to “search engine optimizers,” a term adopted by an industry of consultants who carry out optimization projects on behalf of clients, and by employees who perform SEO services in-house. Search engine optimizers may offer SEO as a stand-alone service or as a part of a broader marketing campaign. Because effective SEO may require changes to the HTML source code of a site and site content, SEO tactics may be incorporated into website development and design. The term “search engine friendly” may be used to describe website designs, menus, content management systems, images, videos, shopping carts, and other elements that have been optimized for the purpose of search engine exposure.

Another class of techniques, known as black hat SEO or spamdexing, uses methods such as link farms, keyword stuffing and article spinning that degrade both the relevance of search results and the quality of user-experience with search engines. Search engines look for sites that employ these techniques in order to remove them from their indices.

Search engine optimization methods are techniques used by webmasters to get more visibility for their sites in search engine results pages.

The leading search engines, such as Google, Bing and Yahoo!, use crawlers to find pages for their algorithmic search results. Pages that are linked from other search engine indexed pages do not need to be submitted because they are found automatically. Some search engines, notably Yahoo!, operate a paid submission service that guarantee crawling for either a set fee or cost per click. Such programs usually guarantee inclusion in the database, but do not guarantee specific ranking within the search results.[citation needed] Two major directories, the Yahoo Directory and the Open Directory Project both require manual submission and human editorial review. Google offers Google Webmaster Tools, for which an XML Sitemap feed can be created and submitted for free to ensure that all pages are found, especially pages that aren’t discoverable by automatically following links.

Search engine crawlers may look at a number of different factors when crawling a site. Not every page is indexed by the search engines. Distance of pages from the root directory of a site may also be a factor in whether or not pages get crawled.

Content creation is one of the primary focuses of any SEO’s job. Without unique, relevant, and easily scannable content users tend to spend little to no time paying attention to a website. Almost all SEOs that provide organic search improve focus heavily on creating this type of content, or “linkbait”. Linkbait is a term used to describe content that is designed to be shared and replicated virally in an effort to gain back links.

Often, webmasters and content administrators create blogs to easily provide this information through a method that is intrinsically viral. However, most forget that traffic generated to blog accounts don’t point back to their respective domains, so they lose “link juice”. Link juice is jargon for links that provide a boost to Page Rank and Trust Rank. Changing the domain of the blog, to a sub domain of the respective domain is a quick way to combat this siphoning of link juice.

Other commonly implemented methodologies for creating and disseminating content include YouTube Videos, Google Places accounts, as well as Picasa and Flickr photos indexed in Google Images Searches. These additional forms of content allow webmasters to produce content that ranks well in the world’s second most popular search engine – YouTube, in addition to appearing in organic search results.

Just A Thought

I found this quote that you might find interesting.

“If the nation is living within its income its credit is good. If in some crisis it lives beyond its income for a year or two it can usually borrow temporarily on reasonable terms. But if, like the spendthrift, it throws discretion to the winds, is willing to make no sacrifice at all in spending, extends its taxing up to the limit of the people’s power to pay, and continues to pile up deficits, it is on the road to bankruptcy.”___Franklin D. Roosevelt

Tiny Flecks of Gold

Here’s a wonderful story I heard recently from M. Russell Ballard……*

Oftentimes we are like the young merchant from Boston, who in 1849, as the story goes, was caught up in the fervor of the California gold rush. He sold all of his possessions to seek his fortune in the California rivers, which he was told were filled with gold nuggets so big that one could hardly carry them.

Day after endless day, the young man dipped his pan into the river and came up empty. His only reward was a growing pile of rocks. Discouraged and broke, he was ready to quit until one day an old, experienced prospector said to him, “That’s quite a pile of rocks you are getting there, my boy.”

The young man replied ,“There’s no gold here. I’m going back home.”

Walking over to the pile of rocks, the old prospector said, “Oh, there is gold all right. You just have to know where to find it.” He picked two rocks up in his hands and crashed them together. One of the rocks split open, revealing several flecks of gold sparkling in the sunlight.

Noticing a bulging leather pouch fastened to the prospector’s waist, the young man said, “I’m looking for nuggets like the ones in your pouch, not just tiny flecks.”

The old prospector extended his pouch toward the young man, who looked inside, expecting to see several large nuggets. He was stunned to see that the pouch was filled with thousands of flecks of gold.

The old prospector said, “Son, it seems to me you are so busy looking for large nuggets that you’re missing filling your pouch with these precious flecks of gold. The patient accumulation of these little flecks has brought me great wealth.”

*……M.Russell Ballard, “Finding Joy through Loving Service,” Ensign, May 2011, pgs. 46-48.

To put it in proper context he was talking about the little acts of service that one may do and how that equates to obtaining true joy.

I like this story because it also helps me to put in perspective that having success in any kind of marketing is really not about selling but about understanding needs and then offering solutions to satisfy those needs and then proper follow-up and attention to detail (customer service.) You’ve all heard that the customer comes first and that is the true bottom line. So this is an attitude and a process that can best be described as the “tiny flecks of gold,” and when patiently collected lead to the bigger prize and that is the nuggets. The Key is to have a burning desire to help others in need and be patient to collect the “tiny flecks of gold” along the way.

Attitude

212 Degrees on You Tube

Having the right attitude can make all the difference. Too often we look at things in a negative light and that can really be destructive!
The other day I suffered a round of golf in which I scored horribly, but didn’t really play as bad as I scored. I scored a 92 and here is the interesting part. I only had 24 putts! That is almost unheard of. One of my playing partners said to me that my score could have been several strokes higher if I hadn’t putted so well. Well, excuse me-that is a negative comment. The way I looked at it was how much better it would have been if I didn’t make the other mistakes I made?

Even more perplexing was that my drives were actually very good with even one of the longest and prettiest drives of my life. Yet this same individual would make comments like, “ya can’t get there in two strokes,” thus passing on his limitations to me. I continually proved him to be wrong and I do not appreciate when people constantly look at the glass as half empty. So I know what part of my game needs the most work at the moment and I will work on it. At least my attitude is healthy and I believe that is what makes all the difference-especially in the more important pursuits of life.

Homeward Bound

Homeward Bound by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir

This is absolutely the most beautiful music on this earth and in heaven. Listen and reflect on what this actually means to you. I have included the lyrics for you and the video.

HOMEWARD BOUND

Words and Music by Marta Keen

In the quiet misty morning, when the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing and the sky is clear and red,
When the summer’s ceased its gleaming, when the corn is past its prime,
When adventure’s lost its meaning, I’ll be homeward bound in time.
Bind me not to the pasture. Chain me not to the plow.
Set me free to find my calling and I’ll return to you somehow.

If you find it’s me you’re missing, if you’re hoping I’ll return,
To your thought I’ll soon be list’ning; in the road I’ll stop and turn.
Then the wind will set me racing as my journey nears its end,
And the path I’ll be retracing when I’m homeward bound again.
Bind me not to the pasture. Chain me not to the plow.
Set me free to find my calling and I’ll return to you somehow

In the quiet misty morning when the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing, I’ll be homeward bound again
